Children’s Mental Health Week 2018
Celebrating #BeingOurselves

A child’s experience at this young age shapes their emotional, personalities and how they feel in their own skin. With so many pressures around in life from social presences to how they do academically children today face more at times than an average adult would.

In a kalma junior children’s yoga class we provide our children we breathing, stretching and mindfulness techniques which can be applied in every day life scenarios. Yoga and mindfulness have been shown to improve both physical and mental health in school-age children (ages 6 to 12). Yoga can help aid balance, strength and endurance in children. Physiological benefits for children who do yoga are Ines which can improve focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance, and classroom behaviour. Research has shown that it can also reduce stress and anxiety in children considerably. In a typical Kalma Junior class children are freely allowed to express emotions through breathing and postures which allows them to be their selves.

“Childhood is an incredibly important moment in our lives. It is the time when we explore our personalities, discover the potential that lies within us and learn how to be ourselves.” Duchess of Cambridge

Research suggests that yoga can help children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) by improving the symptoms of ADHD, including inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It can also boost how the child with ADHD performs in school. A growing number of schools in our North East region now integrate Kalma Junior yoga and mindfulness into physical education programs or classroom curriculums. These schools have reported children have become more on task in lessons and applying focus after the yoga session. Children’s Yoga can be added to a daily routine and the simplicity of adding gratitudes, affirmations and mindfulness into it can be life changing!
