Pre-School (3 – 5 Years) children’s minds & wellbeing class

Our Pre school classes build on foundations set in baby and toddler yoga, encouraging children to be confident in their own independent yoga practice to build self esteem. We incorporate stories and games for a fun and stimulating class, while developing flexibility strength and coordination.  Yoga for children is becoming popular as a way to helping children to feel more comfortable and confident with their bodies.

Pre-teens (5 – 11 Years) children’s minds & wellbeing

Our Pre teens classes focus on encouraging children to make a connection between their physical and emotional state. Using introductory breathing techniques alongside yoga stretches and mindfulness promoting self awareness, relaxation, and increasing concentration. Giving children tools to build and maintain relationships through partner and group work, allowing children to understand and process feelings of others and themselves.

Teens (12 – 17) minds & wellbeing

Yoga teaches teens techniques for coping with the unique issues they’re faced with everyday—insecurity about their changing bodies, the enormous pressure to fit in, stressful schedules, and uncertainty about their beliefs and their futures.  Teen classes enhance skills learnt each week by refining and improving their yoga, breathing and mindfulness techniques. Through more advanced yoga poses and breathing exercises we support character development and provide tools to regulate emotions, enabling teens to create lifelong wellness.

Yoga for Autism

Our fabulous Kalma yoga classes designed especially for those on the autistic spectrum to enjoy. From the venue, music and lighting, to preparing and making them feel welcome, these sessions still offer all the benefits of a yoga class for their age group but in an environment the yogis can feel safe. It is well known that children with autism gain a great deal from physical activity and in yoga they can push themselves and also learn techniques to help them with the frustrations that daily life can sometimes bring.

SPELL is The National Autistic Society’s framework for understanding and responding to the needs of children and adults on the autism spectrum. It focuses on five principles that have been identified as vital elements of best practice in autism, and emphasises ways to change the environment and our approaches to meet the specific needs of each person. SPELL is the approach inside all our Autism Friendly classes.

Kalma Family Yoga

Family yoga sessions for all ages!  Join us in a yoga session which is built for all the family to reap the benefits.  Classes will develop strength, balance and flexibility in all ages and abilities. It encourages physical interaction, trust and bonding between parents.  Sessions are action packed with music, stories and sensory.  We take yoga stretches along with breathing and adapt each activity to being age appropriate.   During a typical session we bring a rare opportunity for both parents and children to observe and learn from each other and a great way to bridge the huge age difference between them.  A family that yoga’s together has fun together!

Don’t just take our word for it – here’s what our parents are saying…

“It’s been such a lovely experience taking Molly to take part in yoga.   Meeting other children, its an hour of the week she really looks forward to and can wind down from the busyness of everyday life. Rachel has some great insights into yoga and makes the session very personal and welcoming for the children”

Lyndsey

“Our favourite pre-schoolers class.  Emma always finds the balance between an active yoga class and some time out for the children – just what they need!  Beth loves working on her downward dogs and warriors.  She is fast learning her own practice and enjoys playing about with the scarves for breathing!”

Kaye

“My son enjoyed these classes in nursery so decided to give them a try at our local community centre.  Harry was not disappointed!  It was wonderful to watch his own creative mind flow as he became confident each yoga class.  He loves the relaxation and often tells me what he had been thinking at the end of his class!”

Helen

“This is my twins best part of the week.  They have been attending a after school community class for over a year now and I can honestly say the difference in their confidence is just incredible.  Both twins dance so its also been a lovely complementary activity to do to help build muscle strength.  They are always showing their friends the different poses they learn in sessions”

Willow

“Absolutely love Kalma Life yoga! Lovely engaging and relaxing classes for my children that cover a range of stretches, breathing techniques and movements that children can use throughout life. My children look forward to the classes every week and come out feeling calm, positive and always have a fab nights sleep!”
