PSHE

Early years and Primary schools

Enhance children’s spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development and provide a sense of awe and wonder about the world around them

A specialised program to cover the PSHE curriculum for schools. PSHE stands for Personal, Social, Health and Economic. This is a compulsory part of children’s education, to teach them about the wider world, and ultimately how to conduct themselves as good citizens within our society.

PSHE education is a school curriculum subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes

they need to keep themselves healthy, safe and prepared for life and work. When delivered well, PSHE education has an impact on both academic and non-academic outcomes for pupils, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged.

The many foundations and values which we teach and instill inside our classes stem from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali which refers to the 8 limbs of yoga, each of which offers guidance on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life.  Part of this journey and pathway means knowing how to grow relationships with ourselves and others.  Yoga can teach us many of these…in fact we would go as far to say ALL of these which is why this program has been devised!

Kalma Life’s Relationship Education Program provides every child with a moral, spiritual and cultural outlook on life whilst promoting positive mental and physical development.

A huge part of the underpinning values we strive for at Kalma Life is looking out for our future generations Mental and emotional wellbeing.  Not only this but ensuring that we are teaching our children whilst equipping them with the tools that they will need at some points in their lives.  The Kalma Life PSHE program delivers 5 of the 6 areas of the wellbeing framework the wheel of wellness which supports childrens mental health.

This includes, body (being active), mind (ongoing learning), spirit (giving/altruism), people (connecting with others), Place (being present and mindful).

A program that looks looks after wellbeing

Children who take part in yoga classes, from an early age children develop important inter and intrapersonal skills. Classes will bring awareness to the external environment and to the internal experience of the body and mind.

A regular yoga practice offers a healthy head start in life which, is especially important in our fast paced and stressful world.  We will teach techniques which can easily be used as lifelong tools effective help for learning disorders, hyperactivity, stress and lack of exercise.

Yoga also increases self-confidence and most important it is fun.

Develop Community Cohesion

Each lesson plan delivered has a vision of focus whereby children will belong to our yoga group and take away what they learn to their wider circles of the community.  Through the eight limbs of yoga children will be taught that we are fully inclusive, that each of them have similar opportunities to achieve poses and to be respectful to others and themselves this is the first and second limb.

Each of the above will be included through our carefully devised strand to cover the new elements of Relationship Education supported with a workbook for every child.

Don’t just take our word for it – here’s what our schools are saying…

“We had our school sports week with Kalma Life and our children took so much out of doing yoga for the week.  Children have been able to use their imagination whilst learning to understand the way in which the body moves.  Learning to use breathing to exercise their minds has been fascinating for them!”  PE coordinator South Shields

“Our key stage one children look forward to yoga each week.  We have it during lunch break so that the children can feel energised after the morning sessions.  You can always notice a difference in the morning and after lunch time!” Key stage one teacher

“Nursery children relaxing is a wonderful thing to see.  They lead such busy activities all day and to give them 15 minutes of relaxing and teaching them to be still is a gift itself.  We look forward to it each week.” Busy bees

“SATS week comes so quickly!  It can be super stressful for the children and we have genuinely found a way for them to manage the emotions of the weeks leading up to test.  Breathing, stretching and relaxing-teaching the lots of self regulation tools.”

“Absolutely loving Kalma Life classes for our secondary school.  You can really see the students unwind and get some real internal nourishment.  Teens face so many stressful situations and pressures as they grow and its rewarding to know as a school we are giving them essesntial tools”
