Welcome! I’m Philippa, the proud owner of Kalma Life, offering nurturing yoga classes for babies and children in Hartlepool.

I have a degree in psychology and have spent the past decade working as a teaching assistant, gaining invaluable experience with children and families, including those with special educational needs. Now, as a newly qualified teacher, I’m excited to bring my expertise and passion for education into the world of yoga.

My journey into yoga began during the challenging COVID years, where I discovered the incredible benefits of mindfulness and yoga—especially while pregnant.

During my maternity leave, I attended Kalma Life baby classes with my daughter, and they quickly became the highlight of our week! These sessions sparked a deep passion for the transformative power of yoga, and when the opportunity arose to join the Kalma Life franchise, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. This career change has brought a better work-life balance, and I’m thrilled to share the joys of yoga with families in our community.

As a fully DBS-checked, insured instructor with certifications in paediatric first aid and safeguarding, I’m committed to providing a safe, supportive, and fun environment for you and your little ones. I can’t wait to welcome you to our classes and embark on this wonderful journey together!

Feel free to reach out with any questions. I look forward to meeting you and your little yogi soon!

What do people say about us?
Fabulous first term at baby yoga, my son has really enjoyed the classes and meeting other babies and mams, as have I. We’ll be back next term – Cath E

A lovely class that my baby adored, lots of fun and we can’t wait for our next session. – Emma S

Thankyou for a lovely morning of Yoga. Rosa really enjoyed herself and so did I. Can’t wait for the rest of the course. Rachel is a fab instructor who made the class friendly, informal and fun. Thankyou xx – Sarah S

Don’t just take our word for it – here’s what our schools are saying…

“Sessions enjoyed by all. Children were very eager each
week to learn a new position and enjoyed the games and
challenges. It was lovely to see the improvement in balance and
technique made by lots of the children as the weeks went on.

Eva – I loved the wonderful activities we did – they made me smile,
like when we did the downward dog in a row and someone had to
crawl through.”

Class 2 our Lady Star of the Sea RC Primary

“The children loved the Yoga sessions.  It was a fantastic
opportunity for them to have some quiet, relaxation time.  Their
strength and balance over the weeks vastly improved and it was
lovely to see them have a sense of pride when they mastered the
different poses.

Ava – I love doing all of it but especially the partner stuff before
lockdown came and creating the great poses.”

Class 4 Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Primary

“Excellent, engaging sessions that built on previous skills
and showed development through the term.  Well-structured
sessions allowing children to develop own ideas, practise skills
and embed movements.  Lovely little games and themes
throughout the sessions and Rachel has a very positive and
encouraging manner with the children.

Morgan – It was so much fun.”

Class 1 Our Lady Star of Sea RC Primary

”Sessions were well planned and very well delivered for groups of 6 pupils in each session.  Rachel leads the pupils well with engaging activities which are clearly explained and demonstrated.  Opportunities for calming exercise and relaxation activities are given and the use of calming music allows pupils to engage in purposeful, relaxing techniques which can also be completed at home in between sessions.  Rachel manages all pupils with a calm and supportive approach.  School is keen to continue with the sessions for small groups of pupils.  All resources are provided for the group including mats.”

Gillas Lane Primary Academy

”Rachel is lovely with the children and interacts well with them through Zoom.  Rachel throughout the session will observe the children and praise them for their efforts. She also picks out children who are not quite doing the move correctly and will talk them through the correct way so they don’t hurt themselves. The sessions are often based around a story or a film that is familiar to the children. The children really enjoy this link when doing the yoga moves.”
